Helpful hint: Choose the right team!

I’ve said it many times. Making a video probably won’t work. I know it sounds weird coming from a video marketing company, but it’s consistent video marketing content that gets dependable results. Making a single video just doesn’t cut it anymore. I’m not sure that it ever really did.

This brings up a problem though. Consistent video marketing content means consistent demands on time, consistent demands on effort and consistent demands on money. At One Song we address these demands in innovative ways to minimize them as much as possible. I’ll give you some examples.

3 Ways One Song Studios Scales Video Content

1. Batch Video Production

Here’s a scenario, You want to do a 10 minute weekly show for your YouTube channel. You schedule an hour every Monday, hire a video production team (or keep it in house) to come out and work out next week’s message.

It’s not a bad plan, but here’s what you’ll find out:

Even if an hour is enough (it’s probably not), you’re hiring a team or diverting your internal team every week to produce one video. Just one.

Here what I would suggest:

  • Set aside a day once a month (or even once a quarter).
  • Prepare your messages for the entire month.
  • Bring some changes of clothes.
  • Shoot one video.
  • Change clothes.
  • Shoot another video.
  • Repeat until done.

With this method we have been able to get as many as 16 episodes shot in one day. This is the very definition of consistent video marketing content and it saved one of our clients an estimated $46,400 over having us come out every week as well as countless hours of their time and effort.

Benefits of Batch Video Production

Once you realize that video production can be a cost effective way to produce marketing material for your business, you just need to know how to produce video content that pays for itself over time.

Is it better to spend a week creating 52 videos, or to spend a half of a day every week to produce a video throughout the year?

Not only is the batch production much less time intensive, it’s also far work likely to actually get done. Committing that week to video production is way easier than trying to make that half day happen every week. Or maybe it’s shooting 4 videos on 1 day a month instead of shooting a video every week.

2. Repurposing Video Marketing Content

Now that we have a plan to make the most out of our clients’ production time and money, our next goal is to stretch out the content we produce. We may be shooting for a YouTube series but what if you also need website content, ad or social media videos as well? This starts with a plan.

In situations like this we work closely with our clients to create a content plan that allows us to double or triple up on footage from the same shoot to produce content for all needed channels in one shot.

How do we do that you ask? Here’s an example.

Let’s say we are shooting a 2 minute brand video for the front page of your website. To do that we shoot some interviews of key personnel in your company, shoot some B-roll of your daily activities and we include some testimonials of your best clients.

Traditionally a video studio would cut all of that footage into a 2 minute piece, deliver it to you and call it done. Then, if you wanted more content you would need to contract them again for another video, with another set of requirements, with another set of deliverables. We believe that is a waste.

With no additional video shoots required you could take the interview footage with b-roll and create ads or social media posts. You can take the testimonials and recut them for a testimonial section to your website. The possibilities are plentiful, but the basic concept is that if your video production company is preplanning for the maximum output of the production then you can create far more content for far less costs.

3. Anyone for BBQ?

If you know me, you know I place a lot of value on testimonials. Having your current clients talk to your potential clients is very powerful. I suggest every business devote a healthy amount of resources to testimonials.

You could have them do it themselves on their cellphones, and that’s actually not a bad idea. This can be quite effective. However, if you want to up the production value it would usually involve sending a team all over the place to get your ideal clients to say nice things about your business. Sometimes this can involve multiple teams or multiple production days.

If it sounds expensive, it’s because it very well can be quite expensive.

But what if there was a way to get your clients to come to one place in a way that makes them actually want to go there and also makes them even more eager to say nice things about you? You can have all of that and save a boatload of time, effort and money as well.

That’s where the BBQ comes in. It could be a company picnic, workshop, non-profit event or whatever you like. The point is to put on some sort of client appreciation event that your clients actually want to go to. Once they are there you can have your video crew in a corner somewhere ready to receive kind words from your ideal clients that have just happily had their bellies filled by you.

This is a great way to get a lot of testimonials in one swoop and have a much higher production value at a fraction of the costs.

Conclusion

I shared 3 with you today, but at One Song Studios our goal from the start was to bring high production value to small and medium sized businesses. These techniques are just the tip of the iceberg in our efforts to accomplish that mission and provide consistent video marketing content.  If you would like us to bring these or many other techniques to your company, set up a complimentary video strategy session and I’d love to help you out.
